Volumes have been written on this subject, and the controversy and squabbling about where the "hot" slots are located in a casino are still passionate - over sixty years after slot machines were first placed in the casinos.

The quintessential rule is that the very best slot machine games were put just inside the main doorway of the casino; so that individuals walking by would be able to see real jackpot winners ... be convinced to come unto the gaming floor and play. Our estimation is that this is not so anymore.

The great majority of the big name casinos these days are super-colossal complexes and you no longer can see inside from the sidewalk, so there is no longer a reason to put the 'loose' slot machine games in close proximity to any exits.
